Pelvic PT FAQ’s

  1. First, your pelvic health specialist will greet you, review your health history and symptoms with you and spend time getting to know you, your reason for seeking pelvic floor rehabilitation and your individual goals and desired outcomes. Your initial visit will be 60-90 minutes.
  2. A thorough external assessment will be completed, including evaluation of posture and alignment, movement patterns, range of motion, muscle balance and muscle strength, as well as any additional diagnostics needed to determine causes of symptoms, limitation and/or pain.
  3. With consent, an internal pelvic muscle exam is performed to further provide information related to or causing your pelvic floor dysfunction. This muscle exam allows your pelvic health specialist to determine important factors about your pelvic floor such as tone, location of pain, muscle strength, restriction or scar tissue and prolapse. The pelvic muscle exam is completed using one gloved finger to palpate the muscles and structures of the pelvic floor and to assess power and endurance.
  4. After your provider has completed your assessment, you will be thoroughly educated about your findings and a plan of care will be recommended specific to your individual needs, as well as tailored to meet your personal goals for pelvic floor rehabilitation.
  1. Each treatment session is booked for 60 minutes. You will work with your pelvic health specialist, one-on-one, throughout your entire visit.
  2. Our team is very “manual based,” and emphasize the importance of manual therapy treatment, including myofascial release, joint mobilization and manipulation, scar mobilization and cupping. In addition, we provide trigger point dry needling as needed during your session.
  3. We take a “whole body approach” at our facility, assessing and treating from head-to-toe to restore function and resolve limitation and pain. We will address alignment and posture issues, muscle imbalance and tissue restriction, reduced range of motion, strength and endurance, and sources of pain. Along with manual therapy, your provider will prescribe exercise and activities to support your journey to end limitation and pain and to return to the activities you love!
  4. In addition to comfortable, private treatment rooms, we have a fully equipped gym featuring mirrored walls, where you and your provider work one-on-one as you progress and advance to higher levels of exercise and activity.
  5. Internal pelvic floor treatment will be provided, as needed, at follow-up sessions.
  6. All patients will receive full support from your provider and access to home exercises, including videos, and educational handouts designed specifically for you!

On average, 6-8 visits are optimal for symptom resolution; however, this varies depending on each individual’s health history, complexity and chronicity of symptoms, as well as compliance with therapy and home exercise programs. Our team desires to not only provide exceptional care, but to serve as a teammate and support system for your long-term success. We believe in supporting your journey to become educated and independent after you have achieved your goals! If we are needed for occasional “maintenance visits” following your initial treatment, we are here for you!
